  1. Lubricate the upper area of the cylinder wall of accumulator (1) and piston assembly (2) with the lubricant that is being sealed. Use Tooling (B) to install piston assembly (2). Push piston assembly (2) in accumulator (1) with the hollow side of the piston assembly toward the gas side, as shown.

  2. Install backup ring (6) and O-ring seal (7) onto end cap (4). Install backup ring (9) and O-ring seal (8) onto end cap (3).

Note: The backup rings are to be assembled onto the end caps first and then the O-ring seals.

Note: The backup rings and O-ring seals are identical for both end caps.

  3. Lubricate O-ring seal (7) and O-ring seal (8) with Tooling (C).

  4. Screw end cap (3) and end cap (4) into accumulator (1). Use Tooling (A) to tighten the end caps to a torque of 300 ± 15 N·m (221 ± 11 lb ft).

Note: Tooling (A) requires three M12 bolts that are 31mm long

  5. Install the labels over the locking pins.

  6. Install O-ring seal (11) and O-ring seal (10) onto gas valve (5).

  7. Install gas valve (5). Tighten gas valve (5) to a torque of 35 ± 1.5 N·m (26 ± 1 lb ft). Install the gas valve protector. Tighten the gas valve protector to a torque of 1.6 ± 0.1 N·m (14 ± 1 lb in).

  8. Charge the accumulator. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Brake Accumulator - Test and Charge".

End By:
