New Specifications For Installation Of Crankshaft Counterweight Bolts

Usage:

3508, 3512, And 3516 Engines In All Applications

Description of Change: New specifications have been released for installation of crankshaft counterweight retainer bolts on 3508, 3512 and 3516 Engines. Two changes have been made:

1. "Fel-Pro C100" must now be used instead of engine oil or 2P2506 Thread Lubricant on the bolt threads, shank and head seat to prevent damage when the bolts are tightened. It is important to put the lubricant on all these areas to prevent damage.

2. After the bolts are tightened to the initial (first) torque of 50 ± 5 N·m (37 ± 4 lb ft), the bolts are now turned 120° ± 5° more. Formerly, the bolts were turned 90° ± 5° more. This change increases the total torque on the bolts to hold the counterweights in place better, especially in some conditions of engine overspeed (above normal rpm).

Adaptable To: All earlier engines. Check to be sure this specification is shown correctly in your copies of Service Manuals for 3508, 3512 and 3516 Engines.
