New Guard Assemblies Used

Usage:

All 3500 Series Industrial, Marine and Generator Set Engines

Description of Change: A new rear guard assembly and a new belt guard assembly are used in the radiator and fan groups on the above engines. These new guard assemblies are released because of the need for more clearance for an earlier change to the governor. The new guard assemblies have notches in them to give this clearance.

Adaptable As: The new guard assemblies, when used together, are direct replacements for the former guard assemblies as shown in the chart. Because of the notches in the new guards, it was necessary to change the location of one of the bolt holes in the guard assemblies.

The rear guard assembly is fastened to the belt guard assembly. If the new belt guard assembly is used with a former rear guard assembly, an additional bolt hole will have to be drilled in the former rear guard assembly. To make this modification to the former rear guard assembly, bolt the new belt guard to the former rear guard. One bolt in each guard will not be in alignment. Drill a 10.80 mm (.422") diameter hole in the former rear guard assembly, at the location of the hole in the new belt guard assembly.

If a new rear guard assembly is used with the former belt guard assembly, the notch in the new rear guard assembly will be in alignment with the weld nut in the former belt guard assembly. No fastener can be used in this location.
