New Generators

Usage:

D348, 3208, 3304, 3306, 3406, 3408, 3412 Generator Set Engines

Description of Change: The generators for the above generator set engines have improved rotors. The windings of the rotors use a thicker wire.

The new type wire is wound on the rotor by a method that results in even parallel layers. The thicker wire replaces four strands of a thinner wire.

Wedges are installed against the windings to prevent movement of the wires away from the shaft by centrifugal force.

The thicker wire, the method of winding and the wedges prevent movement of the wires, which can cause a short.

New voltage regulators and exciters are used with some generators to give better generator performance. These regulators and exciters are the same ones that are used on the 580 (3412 Engine) frame generators.

Adaptable To: The new rotors are direct replacements for the former rotors. They can be used without modification to the generator.

Chart A shows the in effect manufacturer's serial numbers for generators with the new rotors. In addition, the chart shows the new and former part numbers for the generators and rotors. It also shows the new part numbers of the stator and rotor for the exciter, where needed.

Chart B shows the part numbers and in effect manufacturer's serial numbers for generators that had the new parts in them, starting with their first production.

Mark the parts books for these generator set engines to make reference to this article until parts books with the new part numbers are available.
