An Improved Cylinder Block Is Now Used for C7 Engines {1201} Caterpillar

An Improved Cylinder Block Is Now Used for C7 Engines {1201}

Usage:

C7 C7P
Industrial Engine
C7 (S/N: JTF1-UP; TEF1-UP)
Material Handler
MH3037 (S/N: KPM1-UP)
Petroleum Engine
C7 PETROLEUM (S/N: C7P1-UP)

Description Of Change: The improved cylinder block has more clearance for the exhaust pushrod. The manufacturing process for casting the cylinder block was improved.

If a push rod failure occurs, the cylinder block and cylinder head need inspected for interference. If interference is observed, refer to the Rework Procedure.

Adaptable To: The improvement has been made to the 263-3773 Cylinder Block.

The 263-3773 Cylinder Block is adaptable to the above engines back to first production.

This change is effective for the serial numbers listed in Table 1.

Rework Procedure

  1. Disconnect the wiring harness from the HEUI pump, main injector connector, atmosphere sensor, rail pressure sensor, and ECM.

  2. Remove the valve cover.

  3. Remove the valve cover base.

  4. Remove the rocker arm.

  5. Inspect the pushrods for damage.

  6. If exhaust pushrods 1 and 2 are found damaged, perform the following steps:

    1. Remove the compressor.

    2. Remove the speed sensors but do not disconnect harness.

    3. Remove the HEUI pump.

    5. Install a rag over the camshaft to prevent any debris contamination.

  7. If the exhaust pushrods 3, 4, 5 and 6 are found damaged, perform the following steps:

    1. Remove the ECM.

    5. Flush with oil on the reworked area and wipe with a clean rag to remove debris that may still be in the rework area.

  8. Install the side covers.

  9. Install a new pushrod to replace any that were found damaged.

  10. Install the rocker arm assembly.

  11. Verify that the valve lash is set to the specifications.

  12. During the valve lash verification, visually verify clearance between the pushrod and the block.

  13. Visually verify that pushrods are seated correctly on both ends.

  14. Install the valve cover base.

  15. Install the valve cover.

  16. Reinstall all the components that were removed after steps 6 and 7.

  17. Touch up the fastener hardware with paint as necessary.
