Turbocharger - Remove and Install - Low-Pressure

Usage:

C12.9 PC7

Start By:

  1. Remove air cleaner.

  1. Remove nuts (1). Remove bolts (2) and remove exhaust heat shield (3).

  2. Remove nut (4).

  3. Remove bolts (5) and turbo heat shield (6).

  4. Remove bolts (7) and bracket (8).

  5. Remove bolts (9). Remove turbo heat shield (10).

  6. Remove P-Clip (11) and remove tube assembly (12).

  7. Remove bolts (13) and remove heat shield (14).

  8. Remove clamps (15) and (19). Remove pipe assembly (16). Remove heat shield (17) and heat shield (18).

  9. Remove gaskets (20) from both ends of crossover flex pipe (16).

  10. Remove clamp (22). Remove tube assembly (21).

  11. Remove bolts (23) and remove tube assembly (24). Remove tube assembly (25).

  12. Remove bolt (26). Remove bolts (28) and tube assembly (27).

  13. Remove bolts (29) and remove tube assembly (30).

  14. Remove clamp (31) and rubber coupling (32).

  15. Remove clamp (33), nuts (35) and bolts (36). Remove tube assembly (34).

  16. Attach suitable lifting device to turbocharger (37). The weight of turbocharger (37) is approximately 25 kg (55 lb). Remove nut (38) and nuts (39). Remove turbocharger (37).

  17. Attach suitable lifting device and support the engine as shown to facilitate removal of engine mount (40). The weight of the engine is approximately 1930 kg (4255 lb).

  18. Remove cable straps (42). Disconnect harness assembly (41) and position out of the way. Remove bolts (43) and remove engine mount (40).

  19. Disconnect tube assembly (44). Remove bolts (45) and bracket assembly (46).

  20. Remove stud (48) from the turbocharger.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install turbocharger (37) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Tighten studs (48) to a torque of 38 ± 8 N·m (28 ± 6 lb ft).

    2. Tighten studs (46) to a torque of 38 ± 8 N·m (28 ± 6 lb ft).

    3. Tighten bolts (45) to a torque of 295 ± 30 N·m (218 ± 22 lb ft).

    4. Tighten bolts (43) to a torque of 420 ± 70 N·m (310 ± 52 lb ft).

    5. Tighten nuts (39) to a torque of 75 ± 8 N·m (55 ± 6 lb ft).

    6. Tighten nut (38) to a torque of 75 ± 8 N·m (55 ± 6 lb ft).

    7. Tighten nuts (36) to a torque of 67 ± 7 N·m (49 ± 5 lb ft).

    8. Tighten bolts (35) to a torque of 23 ± 2 N·m (204 ± 20 lb in).

    9. Tighten clamp (33) to a torque of 11 N·m (97 lb in).

    10. Tighten clamp (31) to a torque of 10 ± 1 N·m (89 ± 9 lb in).

    11. Tighten bolts (28) to a torque of 25 ± 3 N·m (221 ± 22 lb in).

    12. Tighten tube assembly (27) to a torque of 40 ± 4 N·m (30 ± 3 lb ft).

    13. Tighten bolt (26) to a torque of 25 ± 3 N·m (221 ± 22 lb in).

    14. Tighten clamp (22) to a torque of 10 ± 1 N·m (89 ± 9 lb in).

    15. Tighten clamp (19) to a torque of 20 ± 2 N·m (177 ± 18 lb in).

    16. Tighten clamp (15) to a torque of 20 ± 2 N·m (177 ± 18 lb in).
