An Improved Final Drive Ring Gear Retainer is Now Used on Certain 777 Off-Highway Trucks {4008, 4050}

Description Of Change: New final drive ring gear retainers are now used on certain 777 Off-Highway Trucks. The harder and more robust retainers have a larger surface area with the ring gear. The new retainers will improve load resistance and extend the service life to the final drive group.

Adaptable To: The new ring gear retainers are adaptable to and effective in production with the machines listed in Table 1.

  1. Remove existing 285-5520 Retainers.

    Note: clean the hub threads using an M10 tap prior to installing new parts.

    Reference: Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Final Drive - Remove " for your machine.

  2. Install four retainers (1), 12 washers (2), and 12 bolts (3) on each side of the machine.

    Note: Apply Loctite® 243TM Blue Threadlocker to the threads and tighten bolts to a torque of 60 ± 12 N·m (44.3 ± 8.9 lb ft).
