Radiator Group - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.

Steam can cause personal injury.

Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure.

Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.


  1. Drain the coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

  2. Disconnect coupling assemblies (2), coupling assemblies (3), and tube assemblies (1).

  3. Remove bolt (5) and clips (8).

  4. Remove bolts (6) and coupling assemblies (4). Disconnect tube assemblies (7).

  5. Remove coupling assembly (11), coupling assembly (10), and tube assembly (9).

  6. Remove bolts (12), bolts (13), guard assembly (14), and guard assembly (15).

  7. Remove bolts (16).

  8. Remove nuts (17).

  11. Attach a suitable lifting device to remove radiator group (20). The weight of radiator group (20) is approximately 1719 kg (3790 lb).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install radiator group (20) in the reverse order of removal.
