Site Considerations

Site Survey Requirements

Prior to installation of the unit at an existing "live" site, a thorough site survey must be performed. A wide array of configurations of the units is available for installation. The installation can also include a wide array of rectifier equipment. Since the units can be installed internationally, understanding site specifics and/or restrictions will promote a more seamless integration. Along with the thorough site survey, the items in Table 1 must be verified as some specifics and/or restrictions may have changed.

Key Site Survey Information

Table 1
Important Site Survey Information at Installation
Item  Description
Rectifier configuration  Verify that rectifier parameters such as float voltage, charge current, and battery capacity can be changed on-site/remotely.
DC site load  Assess total site load and compare with ESS size. A 20 percent allowance should be given for fluctuation in site load.
Rectifier capacity  Verify that the rectifier capacity is greater than the DC site load and ESS charge requirement

The items referenced in Table 1 must be verified to ensure the proper charge and discharge functions of the equipment.

  1. Modification of the rectifier configuration may be needed to allow sufficient current from the rectifier to the battery. An improperly configured rectifier can result in poor charge performance and possible rectifier oscillation.

  2. The site load cannot exceed the capacity/size of the unit. An improperly sized unit can cause an unsupported event due to high current demand.

  3. The rectifier capacity needs to match the total charge load of the APU plus the total site load. A rectifier with limited capacity can result in poor charge performance and possible rectifier oscillation.

Pad Construction and Guidelines

Different geographical areas often have different requirements for pad construction, and location. If needed, contact the site manager for specific guidelines for a particular region. In some installations, there are engineering documents that are created for specific regions that are available upon request.
