The following concerns must be addressed and completed before the ESS is installed on the pad or any cables connected to the system. The concerns serve as a check list for installation requirements performed by the civil and electrical contractors.
- Verify that the intended load is smaller than the ESS kW capacity.
- Verify that the cable entry position on pad is correct.
- Verify that all doors have adequate clearance for the doors to be opened.
- Verify that the grounding cable has been installed. The grounding cable goes from the installed ESS to the appropriate site (earth) ground.
- Verify that the positive and negative battery cables from the ESS to the DC power source (rectifier) are installed correctly.
- If a DG is present, verify the following:
- That the installation of the DG start/stop signal wire from the ESS to the DG controller is correct.
- Verify installation of the DG run/fail signal wire from the ESS to the DG controller is correct.
- Verify that all cables have sufficient length for routing to the appropriate location in the unit.
Shipment Inspection and Material Inventory
The unit will be shipped from the factory with all the necessary components to assemble the equipment. Inspect all packages for damage prior to installation. Do not complete installation with damaged components. Several configurations of the ESS are available for different-sized kW loads. Refer to Table 1 for a list of models to determine the applicable inventory required.

Installer Provided Material Inventory
The installation contractor is expected to provide the materials found in Table 2.
Description | Quantity |
---|---|
Compression lug, aluminum, for positive and negative connections to rectifier and grounding cable terminations | As required |
DC Breaker to function as disconnect and provide circuit protection for the ESS. The breaker is mounted inside rectifier cabinet. | As required |
Wire bundle, 22 AWG, 2 conductor, copper, PVC insulation, 300 VAC, for DG control cables (DG sites only) | As required |
Cable, aluminum, single conductor, 1/0 AWG, 600 V, for cabinet grounding cable | As required |
12 mm anchor bolt and hardware | 4 |
Aluminum conductor is specified for the positive and negative cables connecting the ESS to the rectifier cabinet. Equivalent copper conductor may be utilized if necessary. There is an increased risk of theft of the copper wire. Therefore, the recommendation is to use the aluminum conductor and the supporting materials specified in Table 2.
