Typical installation for communication system for the HMI display |
The G3600 Human Machine Interface display (HMI display) communicates with the engine control module (ECM) and integrated sensing module (ISM) over a combination of CAN protocol and Ethernet connections. This communication is achieved via the A5:M6 module.

The A5:M6 module serves as a translator to the J1939 data received from these devices. Translation of this data into an Ethernet format allows engine and system information to be provided to the HMI display.
The A5:M6 translator module service or software update operations follow the same procedures found on other engine or machine ECMs. The Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat ET) Service Tool is used to communicate with the HMI for accessing ECM configuration programming or viewing the status of a parameter.

The J1939 data is sent from the engine ECM and Integrated Sensing Module (ISM) to the A5:M6 over the CAN data link. Data received by the A5:A6 translator module is internally converted to an Ethernet TX/RX network connection that communicates directly to the HMI display via a dedicated four-wire Ethernet connection.

A 419-5974 Adapter As (AT04-6P TO RJ45) is used to convert an ATO4-6P Ethernet connection to an RJ-45 Ethernet connection. This adapter is located between the A5:M6 translator module and the HMI Ethernet port. The connection then continues with a standard Ethernet cable to the back of the HMI display.
