Alternator - Remove and Install

Usage:

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the V-Belt. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "V-Belts - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


  1. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

  2. Place temporary identification marks on all connections for the harness assembly.

  3. Remove nut (1) and nuts (2) from the terminals on alternator (3).

  4. Remove the harness assembly from alternator (3).

  5. Remove nut (12) (not shown) and washer (11) (not shown).

  6. Remove bolt (7) (not shown) and washer (6) (not shown).

  7. Support alternator (3) and remove bolt (8) from the alternator.

  8. Remove alternator (3) from bracket (9).

  9. If necessary, remove bolt (4) and remove adjusting link (5).

  10. If necessary, follow Step 10.a through Step 10.b in order to remove bracket (9) from the cylinder block.

    1. Remove bolts (10) from bracket (9).

    2. Remove bracket (9) from the cylinder block.

Installation Procedure

  1. Ensure that all components are clean and free from wear and damage. If necessary, replace any components that are worn or damaged.

  2. If necessary, follow Step 2.a through Step 2.c in order to install bracket (9) to the cylinder block.

    1. Position bracket (9) onto the cylinder block.

    2. Install bolts (10) to bracket (9) hand tight.

    3. Tighten bolts (10) to a torque of 25 N·m (221 lb in).

  3. If necessary, install adjusting link (5) and install bolt (4) finger tight.

  4. Position alternator (3) onto bracket (9).

    Note: Support the weight of the alternator as the bolt is installed.

  5. Install bolt (8), washer (11) (not shown) and nut (12) (not shown) finger tight.

  6. Connect the harness assembly to the terminals on alternator (3). Ensure that the harness assembly connections are correctly installed.

  7. Install nuts (2) and nut (1).

  8. Tighten nuts (2) and nut (1). Refer to Specifications, "Alternator and Regulator" for the correct information.

  9. Install the V-Belt. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "V-Belts - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure .

  10. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.
