Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

The coolant diverter for the NRS cooler is being left out during engine overhaul, short block builds, transmission cooler repairs, and repairs to the NRS cooler water manifold. When the diverter is left out, coolant supply flow will dead head with return flow causing multiple NRS cooler failures and may cause engine failure.

Solution

After the service is done, the coolant diverter will be installed in order to direct coolant supply flow to the NRS cooler.

The coolant diverter can only be installed one way. The diverter has a tab that pilots into the block to ensure the proper orientation.

If the C9.3 has an NRS coolant manifold, the diverter (1) is located behind the manifold.

If the C9.3 has a transmission oil cooler, the NRS coolant diverter is located behind the cooler.
