A New Torque Value for the Flywheel Group Is Used on Certain C18 Engines {1156}

Description of Change: An improved assembly process for the installation of the flywheel reduces crankshaft journal lobing.

The new process uses a reduced torque for the flywheel mounting bolts.

The old torque was 100 ± 5 N·m (75 ± 4 lb ft). Next, turn the bolt by an additional 90 ± 5 degrees.

The new torque is 270 ± 40 N·m (200 ± 30 lb ft) with no additional turning of the bolt.

Note: Use the new torque when replacing the rear crankshaft seal as well as anytime the flywheel is installed.

Adaptable To: The new torque is adaptable back to first production on the serial numbers listed above. The change is effective for the serial numbers listed in Table 1.
