MID 039 - Machine Control Module
CID 1603 - Machine Control Module
FMI 09 - Abnormal Update Rate
This diagnostic code appears when the Autonomous Control Module (Auto ECM) #1 does not receive a specific message from the machine control module (MCM) over ethernet communications.
Test Step 1. CHECK ETHERNET SWITCH #2
- Verify that Ethernet Switch #2 is powered on. The Ethernet switch has green indicator lights at the ports that are illuminated when powered and are flashing when communicating.
Expected Result:
Ethernet Switch #2 is on and operating properly.
Results:
- OK - Ethernet Switch #2 is operating properly. Proceed to Test Step
- NOT OK - Ethernet Switch #2 is not powered on or operating properly.
Repair: Remove the power cable at the 4-pin deutsch connector connection on Ethernet Switch #2 to cycle power.
STOP
Test Step 2. CHECK THE MACHINE CONTROL MODULE (MCM).
- Verify that the Auto ECM is powered on. Check the connectors for snug, clean fit.
Expected Result:
The Auto ECM is powered (shows in Cat ET) and connections are snug and free of debris.
Results:
- OK - The control module is powered on and connectors are in good working condition.
Repair: Restart the system and allow proper time for startup and communication. Clear code if needed and check to see if the diagnostic code remains.
STOP
- NOT OK - Control module is not powered or a connector found loose or damaged.
Repair: Repair or replace components as needed.
STOP
Test Step 3. CHECK ETHERNET SWITCH #2 USING A LAPTOP
- Connect a laptop to Ethernet Switch #2.
- Using the laptop, ping Auto ECM #1 and the MCM.
Reference: Refer to Special Instruction, REHS7346, "CAT Command for Hauling - 793F CMD Onboard Autonomy and Configuration Guide" for more information on the ping procedure.
- If both modules are pinged successfully, then check the configuration of Ethernet Switch #2.
Reference: Refer to Special Instruction, REHS7346, "CAT Command for Hauling - 793F CMD Onboard Autonomy and Configuration Guide", "Autonomy Switches Configuration" for the Ethernet Switch #2 configuration settings.
Results:
- OK - The modules were successfully pinged and Ethernet Switch #2 is configured properly.
Repair: It is possible that Ethernet Switch #2 has failed. This failure is not likely. Repeat this procedure from the beginning to ensure that Ethernet Switch #2 has failed.
STOP
- NOT OK - Either one of the modules was not responsive or Ethernet Switch #2 configuration was not correct.
Repair: Check cables and wires between the nonresponsive unit and verify that configuration has been corrected.
