The MID 039 CID 967 FMI 09 diagnostic code is recorded when the Machine Control Module (MCM) does not receive a machine serial number (product id) from Monitor 793 (Advisor) or receives one that is not compatible.

Test Step 1. VERIFY POWER TO THE ADVISOR MONITOR.

  1. Ensure that the Advisor monitor panel in the cab of the Autonomous Mining Truck (AMT) powers on when the AMT is keyed on.

Expected Result:

Advisor Monitor powers ON with keyswitch.

Results:

  • OK - Advisor Monitor powers ON with keyswitch. Proceed to Test Step 2.

  • NOT OK - Advisor monitor panel does not power on.

Repair: Troubleshoot the Power circuit for the Advisor panel.

    STOP

Test Step 2. VERIFY MACHINE ID FORMAT IN CAT ET.

    Illustration 2g03697601

  1. Use Cat ET to determine that the machine ID number, entered in the MCM, is correct. Format should be a valid Prefix (such as (S/N: RBT)) followed by five digit serial number.

Expected Result:

Machine ID format is incorrect.

Results:

  • NOT OK - Monitor 793 (Advisor) does not appear in Cat ET. Proceed to Test Step 3.

  • NOT OK - Format appears valid with a correct serial number for the AMT. Proceed to Test Step 7

  • NOT OK - Format and/or serial number are invalid.

Repair: Enter the correct serial number in the correct format.

    Proceed to Test Step 7

Test Step 3. INSPECT THE HARNESS CONNECTIONS.

  1. Turn the keyswitch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.

  2. Inspect the harness connections that are related to the Cat Data Link.

  3. Make sure that the connectors are clean and tight.

  4. Check the mating of the connector.

  5. Check the wires at the connector.

  6. Check each wire for nicks and/or signs of abrasion in the insulation.

  7. Check for moisture at the connector.

  8. Check for dirty contacts and/or corroded contacts.

  9. Check each pin and check each socket.

Expected Result:

The harness connectors are tight and free of corrosion.

Results:

  • OK - The harness connectors are tight and the connectors are free of corrosion. Proceed to test step 4.

  • NOT OK - The harness connectors require repair.

Repair: Repair the harness or replace the harness.

    STOP

Test Step 4. CHECK FOR SHORTS TO GROUND

  1. Turn the disconnect switch and the keyswitch to the OFF position.

  2. Disconnect the harness from all ECMs that use the Cat data-link.

  3. At the harness, measure the resistance between J1-8 and frame ground.

Expected Result:

The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms.

Results:

  • OK - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. The harness circuit is correct. Proceed to Test Step 5.

  • NOT OK - The resistance is not greater than 5000 ohms. The harness has failed.

Repair: There is a short between frame ground and the data link circuit in the harness. Repair or replace the harness.

    STOP

Test Step 5. CHECK FOR A SHORT TO THE +BATTERY CIRCUIT.

  1. The disconnect switch and the keyswitch remain in the OFF position.

  2. All related ECMs remain disconnected from the harness.

  3. Measure the resistance between all possible positive battery sources to contact J1-9 (wire 892-BR(Brown)) and contact J1-8 (wire 893-GN(Green)).

Expected Result:

The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms.

Results:

  • OK - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. Proceed to Test Step 6.

  • NOT OK - The resistance is less than 5000 ohms. There is a short between the +battery circuit and the circuits of the Cat Data Link in the harness.

Repair: Repair or replace the harness.

    STOP

Test Step 6. CHECK FOR AN OPEN HARNESS.

  1. The disconnect switch and the keyswitch remain in the OFF position.

  2. All related ECMs remain disconnected from the harness.

  3. Check the continuity of the data-link circuit in the harness.

    • Measure the resistance from connector contact J1-9 (wire 892-BR(Brown)) of the MCM to the corresponding connector contacts:

    Table 1
    Module  Contact  Wire
    Engine ECM  J1-9  892-BR(Brown)
    Chassis ECM  J1-20  892-BR(Brown)
    VIMS ECM  J1-9  892-BR(Brown)

    • Measure the resistance from connector J1-8 (wire 893-GN(Green)) of the MCM to the corresponding connector contacts:

    Table 2
    Module  Contact  Wire
    Engine ECM  J1-8  893-GN(Green)
    Chassis ECM  J1-10  893-GN(Green)
    VIMS ECM  J1-9  892-BR(Brown)

Expected Result:

The resistance is less than 5 ohms.

Results:

  • OK - The resistance is less than 5 ohms. The Cat Data Link circuit is correct. The Advisor monitor panel may have failed.

Repair: Contact the Cat dealer, an Advisor Monitor replacement is required.

    STOP

  • NOT OK - The resistance is greater than 5 ohms. The data-link circuit is open in the harness.

Repair: Repair or replace the harness. Verify that the repair has corrected the problem.

    STOP

Test Step 7. RESTART THE SYSTEM

Key ON the machine and verify status of event.

Expected Result:

Code cleared.

Results:

  • OK - Code cleared

    STOP

  • NOT OK - Code still active.

Repair: Contact Caterpillar technical support for further troubleshooting.

    STOP
