Introduction
This document is intended to give information on the support tool for the Three60 Precision Control. Before doing any procedure make sure that you have read and you understand the information given in this document.
Support Tool Overview
The Three60 Precision Control System Support tool is a Windows based software program, generally installed on a portable laptop computer that configures and troubleshoots the powertrain and joystick controls.
Because the support tool provides for configuring both the Joystick Control and Powertrain Control it allows you to select the controller you to configure as shown in the Illustration below.

Support Tool Functions
Configuration
Field Setup
Used to configure a new system. This can be done using existing configuration data previously loaded in the Control, or by using an archive file or template.
Field Modify
Used to modify the configuration of a previously configured control.
Offline Modify
Used to view or modify an existing control configuration file for later upload (installation) to the control. This function can be used to modify a configuration prior to visiting an installation, thus saving time on-site.
Diagnostics
This function is used as an aid in system setup and/or troubleshooting.
Exit
Exits Field Configuration
Install
This function installs new firmware (the operating system) on the connected control.

The support tool screen components are described below:
Menu Bar
File
Provides for updating a control's configuration from file or printing the system's configuration.
View
Shows or hides the Status Bar and Tool Bar.
Panel
Allows selection of the desired configuration window.
Windows
Allows you to configure how the support tool displays open configuration windows.
Help
Provides access to the help system.
Desktop
Provides the configurable elements as selected using the panel menu or the configuration window select button. The available configuration windows seen are dependent on whether the Powertrain or Joystick Control support tool is open.
Status Bar
Displays the current status of the support tool. Can be shown or hidden by clicking the "Status Bar" menu item in the "View" menu.
Tool Bar
The tool bar can be shown or can be hidden by clicking the "Tool Bar" menu item in the "View" menu. The tool bar provides the following components:
View Section
Replicates the panel menu items as buttons and allows you to choose the currently active configuration window displayed on the desktop.
Hardware Section
Provides the control's hardware part number and version. This is for information only and cannot be edited.
Software Section
Provides the control's software part number, version, and CRC. This is for information only and cannot be edited.
Note: When multiple windows are open you can set how they are displayed via the Windows menu as shown in the example below.

Installing the Support Tool
In order to install the support tool please perform the following procedure:
- Ensure that the laptop computer on which the support tool will be installed meets the requirements of the support tool.
- Turn on the laptop and allow it to complete the boot process.
- Download the install file from https://dealer.cat.com/servicesoftwaredownloads and launch the install file.
- Click "Install Support Tool". The license agreement is displayed.
- Read the license agreement and click "Yes" if you agree to the terms. If you click "No", the installation process ends and the installation wizard window closes.
- Click "OK" when done. The installation process automatically installs the support tool.
Note: The support tool is now installed and can be run immediately. When it is started, check for updated software.
Note: When the installation is completed check for updated software again, until "An update is not required" is displayed in the screen.
Note: If you are going to use a USB to RS232/485 adapter, such as the Moxa UPort 1150, install its driver now in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. The driver is provided on a CD with the adapter or can be downloaded from the Caterpillar® support site. This must be done before you can connect to the controllers.
Launching the Support Tool
- Connect the computer to the control.
Note: Connection is not required when working in Off Line Modify mode.
- To launch the support tool perform either of the following:
- Select "Three60" from the Start menu, then select "Three60 PC Field Tool" from the Three60 submenu.
- Double-click the shortcut on the desktop created by the installation program.
The login window opens as shown below.
- Select "Three60" from the Start menu, then select "Three60 PC Field Tool" from the Three60 submenu.
- Enter your user name and password provided by Caterpillar®, and then click the "OK" button. The system select screen is displayed as shown below.

- Ensure that the appropriate controller is selected, either Joystick or Powertrain, and then click the "OK" button. The Configuration window is opened and the support tool is now ready for use.

COM Port and Interface Settings
To connect to a controller during the support tool session:
- The computer must be set to use the appropriate serial interface for those using the USB to RS232/485 adapter.
- The support tool must be set to communicate using the appropriate COM port.
Serial Interface Setting
When using a USB to RS232/485 adapter the driver must be set correctly to interface with the serial interface in use. To either verify this or change it perform the following procedure.
Note: Ensure that the adapter driver is installed.
- Connect the USB to RS232/485 adapter to the computer's USB port and the controller's communications harness to the adapter's RS232/485 port.
- To verify or change the current interface settings, click on the Utilities/Communication/Change MOXA UPort interface.

- A pop-up window opens. Follow the instructions to change the adapter type. When you click "OK" as instructed, the Device Manager window opens

- As instructed, double-click "UPort 1150". The "UPort 1150" Properties window opens.

- Click Port Settings. The Port window opens. Set the com port number and the appropriate interface type for the adapter.

- Click "OK". The computer is now configured for the adapter's serial interface and com port.
Com Port Setting
- Click the "COM#, xxxx Baud" button in the lower right corner of the support tool screen or click the "Utilities/Communications/Settings" menu item.
The Communications Setting window opens.

- Select the appropriate COM port for the RS232 or RS485 connection being used.

- Click "OK". The support tool is now set to use the selected com port.
Connecting to a Controller
In order to perform Field Modify, Field Setup, Diagnostics, and System Tune a connection with the controller must be established. The following sections provide information for connecting to a control.
Field Modify, Field Setup and Diagnostics
When an attempt is made to perform Field Modify, Field Setup and Diagnostics without first establishing a connection to the controller, the following message is displayed:

To connect to a controller for the Field Modify, Field Setup or Diagnostics function, perform the following procedure:
- Connect the appropriate communication harness and any required adaptors between the laptop computer and J4 (for RS232) or J10 (for RS485) of the control.
- Launch and log into the support tool as described in "Launching the Support Tool".
- Select the appropriate COM port for the support tool as described in the "COM Port and Interface Settings".
- Power-up or cycle power on the control. The support tool status changes to indicate a connection to the controller has been established.
- Enter Field Modify, Field Setup, or Diagnostics as required from the screen.
