Removal Procedure

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide"for tools and supplies to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations.

Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Mark parts as needed to aid in assembly. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes, this action helps to prevent fluid loss and helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, clean the exterior of the components to dirt from entering the internal mechanism. Precision components can be damaged by contaminants or by dirt.

  1. Turn battery disconnect switch to the OFF position. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Battery Disconnect Switch"

  1. Drain the oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil - Change". Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities - Refill"

Note: Mark the orientation of WDS motor (2) in relation to the water pump and the water tank. This orientation will depend on the tank manufacture.

  1. Remove two bolts (9) and two washers (10) that mount WDS motor (2) .

  1. Remove WDS motor (2). Ensure that the output shaft of the motor disengages with the coupler.

  1. The coupler is to remain installed on the water pump input shaft. If necessary, remove the O-ring from the surface between WDS motor (2) and the water pump.

Note: Use a suitable lifting device to remove the hydraulic motor. The hydraulic motor weighs approximately 55 kg (121 lb.).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install piston motor (water pump) in the reverse order of removal.
