Rocker Shaft - Disassemble

Usage:

C7.1 JME

Disassembly Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the rocker shaft assembly.


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.

Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.

Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.


  1. Make an identification mark on each rocker arm assembly in order to show the location.

    Note: The components must be reinstalled in the original location. Do not interchange components.

  2. Remove pedestals (2) from rocker shaft (5). It is not necessary to remove locators (1) from the pedestals.

  3. Remove retaining clip (8) and remove spring (7) from the rear end of rocker shaft (5).

  4. Remove rocker arm assembly (4) for the exhaust valve from rocker shaft (5). Remove rocker arm assembly (3) for the inlet valve from rocker shaft (5). Begin at the rear of the rocker shaft assembly.

    Note: The rocker arm assembly for the inlet valve is longer than the rocker arm assembly for the exhaust valve.

  5. Remove spring (6) from rocker shaft (5).

  6. Repeat Step 4 and Step 5 to remove the remaining rocker arms from rocker shaft (5).

  7. If necessary, remove retaining clip (8) and remove spring (7) from the front end of rocker shaft (5).

  8. If necessary, remove nuts (10) and adjusters (9) from the rocker arms. Make a temporary identification mark on each adjuster in order to show the location.

    Note: The components must be reinstalled in the original location. Do not interchange components.
