CAT WDS OEM and 777F Off-Highway Truck/Tractor Water Delivery System Caterpillar

Piston Motor (Water Pump) Speed - Test

Usage:

777F JRP

------ WARNING! ------

Diesel engine exhaust contains products of combustion which may cause personal injury.

Always start and operate the engine in a well ventilated area, and, if in an enclosed area, vent the exhaust to the outside.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from rotating and moving parts. Stay clear of all rotating and moving parts.

Never attempt adjustments while the machine is moving or the engine is running unless otherwise specified.

The machine must be parked on a level surface and the engine stopped.

Attach a "Do Not Operate" or similar warning tag to the start switch and controls before servicing, repairing, or making adjustments to the machine.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.

Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine.

Note: The illustrations in the following procedure show the Water Delivery System installed on a 777F Off-Highway Truck.

Note: The following procedure describes the steps which are used to test the speed of the water piston motor and the water impeller. This procedure should be done to troubleshoot the spray system when spray pressure is less than desired pressure.

  1. Drive the machine to a smooth, horizontal surface.

  2. Place the transmission gear selector in the PARK position.

  3. Operate the engine at low idle for a few minutes. Shut down the engine.

  4. Place blocks in front of the rear wheels and behind the rear wheels.

  5. Locate water pump (1). Attach piece of reflective tape (2) on input shaft (3) of the water pump.

  6. Start the engine. Run the engine at high idle in order to warm the hydraulic oil.

  7. Monitor the hydraulic oil temperature. Operate the machine until the oil temperature reaches 43 ± 5.6 °C (110 ± 10 °F).

  8. Operate the engine at low idle.

  9. Press manual mode key (4) on the keypad in order to activate manual spray operation.

  10. Press water pump key (6).

  11. Press cannon key (5) in order to commence spraying from the water cannon.

  12. Monitor the spray pressure on the operating display screen. Use plus and minus keys (7) in order to obtain water pressure of 60 psi.

  13. Measure the speed of the water piston motor with Tool (A). The speed should be 1600 ± 50 rpm.

  14. Use the operating display screen and plus and minus keys (7) in order to obtain water pressure of 100 psi.

  15. Measure the speed of the water piston motor on Tool (A). The speed should be 2000 ± 50 rpm.

  16. Press cannon key (5) in order to deactivate the water cannon.

  17. Press water pump key (6) in order to deactivate the spray pump.

  18. Operate the engine at low idle for a few minutes. Shut down the engine.

  19. If the water piston motor speed is less than the specification, troubleshoot the water spray hydraulic system. If the water piston motor speed is within specification and spray flow or spray pressure is consistently below specification, the water impeller pump may be damaged or defective. Inspect the water impeller pump and replace if necessary.
