Cat® Detect Object Detection System Caterpillar

Operational Problems

Usage:

793B 1HL
Use the following section in order to troubleshoot problems that do not generate a diagnostic code. If a diagnostic code or an event code are active, troubleshoot those codes before using this section.

Video

No Video on all Cameras

Solution

  1. Ensure that the video connector on the back of the display is fully seated.

  2. Check for power out of the display for all of the cameras. Check contact 1 (+24 VDC) and contact 2 (Ground).

Individual Camera has no Video

Solution

  1. Check for power at the suspect camera. Check contact 3 (+24 VDC) and contact 4 (Ground) at the connector on the camera.

  2. Check the wires to the display for the suspect camera.

Video of selected Camera does not Correspond to the Correct Side of the Truck

Solution

  1. The connections in cab for the video harness are incorrect.

    • Channel 1 = Front Camera

    • Channel 2 = Right Camera

    • Channel 3 = Rear Camera

    • Channel 4 = Left Camera

Additionally Cat ET can be used to change the channel for the applicable camera.

Note: The video harnesses have connections at the camera harness, the electronics bay, and the cab. On larger machines, there may be two sections of harness between the electronics bay and the camera.

Display

The Display does not Power Up

The display should power up when the keyswitch is turned to the ON position. If the display does not power on when the key is turned to the ON position, check for the following problems.

Solution

  1. Ensure that the center connector on the display is fully seated.

  2. Check for +24 VDC at contact 11 (+Battery) and contact 12 (Ground), if voltage is present the display has failed. If voltage is not present, check the power connections in the electronics bay and ensure that the circuit breaker is set properly.

Refer to the Electrical System Schematic for the system.

The Screen of the Display is too Dim

The brightness is set to the minimum setting and auto dimming is activated in the configuration screen.

Solution

  1. Use the brightness button and the arrow button in order to increase the brightness level.

The Screen of the Display is too Bright

The brightness for the display may be set too high.

Solution

  1. Use the brightness button and the arrow button in order to lower the brightness of the display.

The Colors on the Display Appear Washed Out and Dim

The display is in night mode.

Solution

  1. Press and hold the brightness button for 2 seconds in order to disable night mode.

The System Status is Red

A diagnostic code or an event are active.

Solution

  1. Check the diagnostic screen for the active code. Refer to System Operation Troubleshooting Testing and Adjusting, UENR2507, "Diagnostic Codes" for additional information.

The System Status Indicator turns Yellow and the Radar Screen Dims after the Machine Travels Approximately 20 m (60 ft) or Reaches 8 km/h (5 mph) Depending Upon How the System is Configured.

Solution

A yellow indicator and a dimmed screen indicate that the system has transitioned to the standby mode after the machine has traveled 20 m (60 ft), this condition is normal, and the indicator should turn green and the radar screen will begin to operate again after the machine has been stopped for the amount of time configured in the "Object Detection System Enable Delay" field in the configuration screen of the display.

No Video or Video does not Match the Selected Machine Position

Solution

Refer to the "Video" section of this document for additional information.

Object Detection Sensors

Detecting False Targets

If the object detection sensors are not adjusted correctly or there are Caterpillar or third-party attachments installed in the path of the radar beam, the system may detect targets when none are present. The following solutions may be helpful in determining the cause.

Note: Defective and damaged enclosures can also generate false detections. If after following the adjustment procedure the radar continues to falsely detect objects, the enclosure should be replaced. Refer to System Operation Troubleshooting Testing and Adjusting, UENR2507, "Object Detection Sensor - Adjust" for more details.

Solution

Use the parameter status screens in Cat ET (version 2011C or later) in order to check the radars that are detecting a target to determine which radars are seeing a target. Then, investigate to determine what the radars are detecting. False detections can be caused by any of the following items:

  • The ground (if there is an upward slope the radar will see the ground)

  • Lights that are mounted to the machine

  • Attachments that are mounted near the radars

  • Loose harnesses hanging near the radars

  • Tires can possibly cause false detections when turned outboard

  • Improperly adjusted radars

  • Defective or damaged enclosure

The Object Detection System has Determined that the Object Detection Sensor has been Blocked

The software in the object detection sensors will activate a blockage event when a target has been within 1 m (3 ft) of the radar for 10 seconds.

Note: Defective and damaged enclosures can also generate false blockage events. If after following the adjustment procedure the radar continues to falsely report blockage events, the enclosure should be replaced. Refer to System Operation Troubleshooting Testing and Adjusting, UENR2507, "Object Detection Sensor - Adjust" for more details.

Note: For enclosures that are frequently blocked by mud and debris it is recommended that the radar wash system is installed.

Solution

  1. Use the status screens in Cat ET in order to troubleshoot these events. Blockages can be caused by any of the following:

    • Mud on the plastic covers of the radar boxes.

    • Number plates used in order to identify the machine number.

    • Equipment, people, or berms that are located next to the machine.

    • Lights or other attachments that are mounted near the radars.

    • Grease lines on the rear of the machine.

    • Defective or damaged enclosure
