3000 Frame SR5 Electric Power Generation Caterpillar

Component Descriptions

Usage:

G3520H GFR
All 3000 frame generators have the same basic design. The following list explains some of the differences that may occur between SR5 generators:

  • Power for the exciter field is provided by the "Permanent Magnet Pilot Excited" (PMPE) method.

  • The exciter is inboard of the rear bearing

  • The pilot exciter will be outboard on PMPE generators

Note: The input end of the generator is defined as the end of the generator that is connected to the engine. The output end of the generator is defined as the end of the generator where the diodes and PMG are located.

Note: The front of the generator is the portion of the generator that is attached to the engine flywheel. The front of the generator is also referred to as the "drive end" (DE). The back of the generator is where the diodes and PMG are located. The back of the generator is also referred to as the "non-drive end" (NDE) of the generator.
