Start By:
- Remove the aftercooler. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Aftercooler - Remove".

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Mark the orientation of bonnet (6) to aftercooler housing (4) for assembly purposes. Remove bolts (1) and bonnet (6).
- Remove O-ring seals (3).
Note: Do not hold the aftercooler in the vertical position. In the vertical position, the aftercooler cores may slide out of the aftercooler housing.
- Carefully remove aftercooler cores (5) from aftercooler housing (4). Support aftercooler cores (5) at all times during the removal process. Remove O-ring seals (3) from aftercooler cores (5).
- Mark the orientation of bonnet (2) and inlet bonnet (7) to aftercooler housing (4) for assembly purposes. Remove bolts (1). Remove bonnet (2) and inlet bonnet (7).
- Remove O-ring seals (3) and spacers (8).
- Remove drain valve group (9) and the O-ring seal.
- If necessary, remove flame arrestor (10) from aftercooler housing (4).
- Use Tooling (A) in order to clean deposits from the tube assemblies in aftercooler cores (5).
