When the Cat Grade Control system is configured to use a laser catcher, the operator can use a laser to transfer bench elevation across a job site, or work directly from a laser in depth from Laser mode.
When the "Laser Catcher Support" field is "YES", Soft Key 4 displays a laser star burst on the run-time screen when a valid laser strike is detected. |
Refer to the following steps in order to configure the Cat Grade Control system to use a laser catcher.

This dialog is used to tell the Cat Grade Control system the location of the tilt bucket angle sensor. The sensor may be mounted on a tilting quick coupler or on the bucket. A tilting quick coupler allows any bucket to be used as a tilt bucket.
The options in this dialog are "On Bucket" or "On Quick Coupler".
When the system is configured as "On Bucket", then each tilt bucket that is defined has a unique tilt bucket calibration value that is defined in the "Worktool Select Edit" dialogs. When the system is configured as "On Quick Coupler", then only one tilt bucket calibration value is determined and retained as a result of the tilt bucket sensor calibration procedure.

The "On-Grade Tolerance" dialog is used to configure the on-grade tolerance used to convey "On-grade" status in the depth to grade data and light bar areas.
The on-grade tolerance value defines when the system is On-Grade or within a small distance of being close enough to on-grade to be acceptable.
For example, if you need to excavate a surface to be within ±
- From the Cat Grade Control menu, select the On-Grade Tolerance icon (4) and press the "OK" key. Refer to Illustration 3
- When you press the "OK" button, you can edit the on-grade tolerance using the up and down arrow buttons. Press the "OK" key to accept.

The grade control sound setup dialog lets the operator configure the display beeper behavior as applicable to Cat Grade Control.
The only options for each item are "YES" or "NO". Operator uses the standard method of editing this type of field.
Note: When the bucket tip is 4 times the tolerance away from grade, the alarm turns off.

In the Grade Units dialog, you can define the grade units for the system from the following options:
- Ratio
- Percentage
- Degrees
Note: The length/distance units are a global setting and are configured from the "Main Display Settings" menu and shared across all other functions of the display.
Linkage Elevation Monitor Setup
Failure to set elevation limit measurements may cause serious injury or death. Failure to react to the visual and audible elevation monitor alerts may cause serious injury or death. The operator must set elevation limit measurements and react to visual and audible elevation monitor alerts by stopping the linkage as the audible and visual notifications occur. |
Under the Cat Grade Control menu, the user can configure the system to provide linkage elevation monitor guidance.
Within the "Linkage Elevation Monitor Setup" dialog, the user is able to enable ceiling, floor or both. Depending on which linkage elevation monitor is enabled determines which linkage elevation monitor status icons are displayed on the Cat Grade Control guidance screen.
Cat Grade Control is enabled, but no limits established. |
Cat Grade Control limits defined for both ceiling and floor. |
Cat Grade Control limits defined for floor only. |
Cat Grade Control limits defined for ceiling only. |
For the cases when Cat Grade Control are not available and exclamation mark is added with the icon to indicate attention required. Some examples would be if the machine has moved or a sensor is missing where system cannot calculate Cat Grade Control. |
The linkage elevation monitor icons display the current state of linkage elevation monitor configuration.

When the status of "Ceiling" or "Floor" is changed from "Disabled" to "Enabled", a snap shot of the linkage position will be taken, and linkage elevation monitor for that position is enabled.
The system does not allow the operator to set a ceiling limit below the floor limit. Alternately, the system does not allow the operator to set a floor limit above the ceiling limit.
