正确操作和保养是获得发动机的最大使用寿命和经济性的主要因素。 如果按照操作和保养手册中的指示去做，使用费用可以降至最低，使用寿命可以最大限度地延长。
使发动机达到正常工作温度的所需要时间要少于对发动机进行巡回检查所需要的时间。
发动机运行时，应观察仪表读数，经常记录数据。 比较长期数据将有助于确定每一个仪表的正常读数。 比较长期数据也将有助于发觉非正常运行的发展变化。 应查明读数发生重大变化的原因。
