Governor Drive - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Remove the governor actuator.

NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


  1. Remove coupling (3) from the accessory drive shaft.

  2. Remove bolts (1) and governor drive housing (2).

  3. Remove O-ring seal (4) and O-ring seal (5) from governor drive housing (2).

  1. Disconnect the harness assembly. Disconnect lever (6) and rod assembly (7) from the lever assembly.

  2. Remove bolts (8), cover (9), and the gasket.

  3. Remove bolts (10) and bracket assembly (11) from cover (9). If necessary, use Tooling (A) to remove the bearings from bracket assembly (11).

  4. Remove lever assembly (12) from cover (9). If necessary, use a suitable press to remove the pin from lever assembly (12).

  5. Remove lip seal (13) from cover (9).

  6. Remove bolts (14) and lever (15).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the governor drive lever and governor drive housing (2) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Apply clean engine oil to lip seal (13). Use Tooling (A) to install lip seal (13). Install lip seal (13) with the lip of the seal toward the inside.

    2. If necessary, use a suitable press to install the pin in lever assembly (12) to a distance of 18.0 ± 1.0 mm (0.71 ± 0.04 inch) above the surface of lever assembly (12).

    3. Use Tooling (A) to install top bearing (16) in bracket assembly (11) to a depth of 0.5 ± 0.5 mm (0.02 ± 0.02 inch).

    4. Use Tooling (A) to install the bottom bearing in bracket assembly (11) to a depth of 4.0 ± 0.5 mm (0.16 ± 0.02 inch). Check the inside diameter of the bearing after installation. The dimension should be 19.126 ± 0.038 mm (0.7530 ± 0.0015 inch).

    5. Ensure that the pins and the levers are in the correct orientation during assembly.
