Shutting Down the Single Module System (SMS)
- SMS with a Bypass Cabinet
- SMS without a Bypass Cabinet
Pre-Shutdown
- Connect a personal computer (PC) to the "RS-232/RS-485" port. The port is located on the bottom back corner of the System Input/Output Board. Refer to Illustration 1. The System Input/Output Board is located in the System Cabinet.
Note: Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, RENR2476, "Component Location (System Cabinet)" for the location of the board.

- Rotate the switch to the corresponding MMU.
- Boot the PC.
- Run the UPS View software by double clicking over the icon on your PC.
- Click on the "Enter Password" menu option in order to view the "Enter User Name / Password" dialog box.
- Enter a valid "User Name" and then enter a valid "Password". Refer to Illustration 9.
After the password has been entered, the menu options will change. The menu bar will contain a "Calibrate" option.

- Depress the <Ctrl><X> keys and hold the <Ctrl><X> keys. This is done in order to bring the system to 0 RPM.
- The system will prompt you to confirm the option. Depress the <Y> key or select "Yes".
Note: This procedure is only available once during a 24 hour period.
Note: A minimum of 15 minutes is required in order to lower the speed of the flywheel to 0 RPM.
Note: A minimum of 15 minutes is required in order to secure the rotor.
SMS with a Bypass Cabinet
- Perform the "Pre-Shutdown" procedure in the "Shutting Down a Single Module System (SMS)" section before proceeding with this procedure.
- Turn the keyswitch (1) on the Flywheel Cabinet to the "Bypass" position. Refer to Illustration 3.

- Remove the key from the keyswitch (1). Secure the key.
- Verify that the system enters the bypass mode. Hit the "Menu" button on the user interface panel of the Flywheel Cabinet. Verify that the system is in the "Bypassed" mode. Refer to Illustration 4.

- Close the Bypass Switch (10) that is located in the Bypass Cabinet. Refer to Illustration 5.

- Open the Output Switch (11) that is located in the Bypass Cabinet. Refer to Illustration 5.
- Open the Input Switch (12) that is located in the Bypass Cabinet. Refer to Illustration 5.
- Remove facility power from the input bus of the system.
- Disconnect the electrical path from the output of the system in order to protect the system for electrical backfeed prevention.
- Allow the capacitor banks to purge down for approximately 5 minutes in order to dissipate any residual energy that may exist in the following components: the bus, the armature leads and the fuses.
SMS without a Bypass Cabinet
- Perform the "Pre-Shutdown" procedure in the "Shutting Down a Single Module System (SMS)" section before proceeding with this procedure.
- Turn the keyswitch (1) on the Flywheel Cabinet to the "Bypass" position. Refer to Illustration 6.

- Remove the key from the keyswitch (1). Secure the key.

- Remove the electrical input to the system.

- Disconnect the electrical path from the output of the system in order to protect the system for electrical backfeed prevention.

Pre-Shutdown

- Open the Input Isolation Switches (6) that are located in the System Cabinet for each MMU. Refer to Illustration 13.
- Disconnect the utility from the input bus of the system.
- Allow the capacitor banks to purge down for approximately 5 minutes in order to dissipate any residual energy that may exist in the following components: the bus, the armature leads and the fuses.
Single Input with Three Switches
- Perform the "Pre-Shutdown" procedure in the "Shutting Down a Multiple Module System (MMS)" section before proceeding with this procedure.
- Turn the keyswitch (2) on each MMU to the "Bypass" position. Refer to Illustration 14.

- Install safety locks by using the tabs for lockout on the front of the switches in the Input/Output Cabinet.
- Allow the capacitor banks to purge down for approximately 5 minutes in order to dissipate any residual energy that may exist in the following components: the bus, the armature leads and the fuses.
Dual Input without Switches
- Perform the "Pre-Shutdown" procedure in the "Shutting Down a Multiple Module System (MMS)" section before proceeding with this procedure.
- Turn the keyswitch (2) on each MMU to the "Bypass" position. Refer to Illustration 20.
