Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU8145, "Initial Startup Procedure" in this manual before proceeding with this procedure.

Starting the Single Module System (SMS)

  • SMS with a Bypass Cabinet

  • SMS without a Bypass Cabinet

  1. Close the Output Switch (11) that is located in the Bypass Cabinet. Refer to Illustration 1.

    User Interface Panel on the Flywheel Cabinet

    (1) Keyswitch

  1. Turn the keyswitch (1) on the Flywheel Cabinet to the "Online" position. Refer to Illustration 2.

    Note: The system will enter the "Bypassed-Auto Start" mode. The system will begin to charge the flywheel. The system will change to the "Online" mode when the flywheel reaches 4000 rpm.

  1. Hit the "Menu" button on the user interface panel. Verify that the flywheel enters the "Online" mode. Refer to Illustration 3.

    The system is ready for operation.

SMS without a Bypass Cabinet

  1. Close the external output circuit breaker that connects the system output to the load of the facility.

  1. Open the external bypass switch.

    (1) Keyswitch

  1. Turn the keyswitch (1) on the Flywheel Cabinet to the "Online" position. Refer to Illustration 4.

    Note: The system will enter the "Bypassed-Auto Start" mode. The system will begin to charge the flywheel. The system will change to the "On-Line" mode when the flywheel reaches 4000 rpm.

  1. Hit the "Menu" button on the user interface panel. Verify that the flywheel enters the "Online" mode. Refer to Illustration 5.

    The system is ready for operation.

Starting the Multiple Module System (MMS)

    The switches go from MMU 1 to MMU 4 in a descending order.

    (6) Input Isolation Switches

    (7) Output Isolation Switches

  1. Close the Input Isolation Switches (6) that are located in the System Cabinet for each MMU. Refer to Illustration 6.

  1. Close the Output Isolation Switches (7) that are located in the System Cabinet for each MMU. Refer to Illustration 6.

  1. Connect the output bus of the system to the load of the facility.

  1. Turn the keyswitch (2) on each MMU to the "Online" position. Refer to Illustration 8.

    Note: The system will enter the "Bypassed-Auto Start" mode. The system will begin to charge the flywheel. The system will change to the "On-Line" mode when the flywheel reaches 4000 rpm.

  1. Select "Telemetry".

  1. Select "MMU Summary".

  1. Verify that the MMU is in the "Online" mode. The flywheel should be spinning at 7700 rpm and the energy should be at "100%". Perform this procedure for each MMU.

  1. The system is ready for operation.

  1. Verify that the "KVA" and the "KW" values are equal to the load of the facility on each MMU.

Single Input With Three Switches

  1. Close the Input Isolation Switches (6) that are located in the System Cabinet for each MMU. Refer to Illustration 10.

  1. Close the Output Isolation Switches (7) that are located in the System Cabinet for each MMU. Refer to Illustration 10.
