Transmission ET Fill Calibration Procedure

References

The following requirements must be met in order to ensure that transmission calibration process can be completed with ET:

  • Laptop computer with serial port

  • Communications adapter

  • ET 2005B or a later version

  • A flash file (.fls) must be loaded into the A4 Electronic Control Module on the machine.

If the Information System Builder is required then the following additional files will also be required:

  • An ELF file (.elf) must be used to communicate with a given Flash File.

  • The Information System Builder also requires a "setup" File that needs to be created or loaded into the Information System Builder so that instructions can be uploaded into the ECU.

ET Transmission Calibration

ET Clutch Calibration Procedure

The ET calibration program is setup to calibrate the clutch fill time, for a given clutch. The program will also provide feedback if errors occur during the calibration process.

This procedure should be carried out when the following occurs:

  • Commissioning procedure for the rig

  • Replacing the ECM

  • Replacing an ECPC valve

  • Replacing the transmission

Calibrating

  1. Operate the transmission in order to warm the oil to normal operating temperature.

  1. Disconnect the drive shaft. The transmission output will turn during calibration.

  1. Connect and Open ET.

  1. Click on the "SERVICE" menu and then click Calibrations.

  1. Select Transmission Fill Calibration.

    Illustration 2g01275183

  1. Verify that the following conditions are met:

    1. Transmission Oil Temperature is in normal range, above 70 °C (158 °F) and below 87 °C (189 °F). During the calibration, this temperature must be above 65 °C (149 °F) and this temperature must be below 96 °C (205 °F).

    1. The engine is at idle.

    1. Neutral is selected.

  1. If these conditions are met click "NEXT".

    Illustration 4g01275193

  1. It takes approximately 15 minutes to complete the calibration program. When the calibration procedure is completed successfully, click "FINISH".

  1. If any errors occur, a reason and a code will appear in a window.

  1. Report the error code to Caterpillar Service Personnel (or Dealership) for additional instructions.

  1. If calibration is stopped for any reason or if calibration fails, the previous calibrated values will remain as the default.
