NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.



NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


  1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".

    Note: It is not necessary to drain the cooling system on sea water aftercooled applications.

  2. Remove bolts (4) from plate (5) and inlet adapter (3).

  3. Remove bolts (2) and inlet adapter (3) from the aftercooler and air pipe (6). Remove the O-ring seals from air pipe (6), if necessary.

  4. Remove seal (1) from inlet adapter (3).

  5. Disconnect all harness assemblies from aftercooler (12).

  6. Loosen hose clamps (8). Disconnect hose (7) from aftercooler (12).

  7. Loosen hose clamps (11). Disconnect hose (10) from aftercooler (12).

  8. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to aftercooler (12). The weight of aftercooler (12) is approximately 70 kg (155 lb).

  9. Remove two bolts (9). Install Tooling (B) in the cylinder head.

  10. Remove remaining bolts (9).

  11. Remove aftercooler (12).

  12. Remove the O-ring seals and remove the support, if necessary.
