Axle (Front) - Remove and Install

Usage:

910M H22

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the drive shaft.

  2. Remove the parking brake.

  3. Remove the tire and rim.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Disconnect the brake line assembly (not shown).

  2. The weight of front axle (1) is approximately 376 kg (830 lb). Support front axle (1) with a suitable lifting device. Remove bolts (2) and plate (3). Repeat for the opposite side.

  3. Remove front axle (1).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install front axle (1) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Ensure the mating surface of the axle, frame, and mounting are clean and dry.

    2. Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 100 ± 20 N·m (74 ± 15 lb ft)Then turn bolts (2) 180° ± 5°.
