SERVICE MAGAZINE; SEPTEMBER 28, 1987; PAGE 4; "Thinner Piston Retaining Nuts Are Used In Hydraulic Cylinders." The 7J9250 Nut (3 1/4") has been changed back to its original thickness of 79.4 mm (3.12"). The thinner nut [50.8 mm (2.00")] has a new part number (7X0895).
On 992C Loaders, it is possible for the thinner nut to loosen on the tilt cylinder pistons. The tilt cylinder groups used on these machines have been changed back to the former, thicker nut effective with date code 3-88 (stamped on the cylinder tag).

- SUPPLEMENT: 12/18/89
SERVICE MAGAZINE; SEPTEMBER 28, 1987; PAGE 4; "Thinner Piston Retaining Nuts Are Used In Hydraulic Cylinders." Disregard this article. The thicker former nuts are now being used due to a change in rod material. Part numbers are the same. Use only thicker nuts when rebuilding any hydraulic cylinders.
--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------
The large retaining nuts for hydraulic cylinder pistons with nylon locking rings in the upper end of the nut are thinner. The nuts range from 4.8 mm (.19") thinner in the 1 1/2" size to 24.5 mm (.96") thinner in the 4 1/2" size. Approximately one-half of the material is removed from the thread of the nut and the remainder is removed from the nylon locking ring. This change does not sacrifice thread strength or locking ability.
The part numbers and sizes that are affected are listed in the chart. The part numbers did not change.
Typical cylinder.
