Caterpillar is pleased to announce that the emission system in the Cat® C7.1 ACERT engine meets the performance requirements of a spark arrestor.

Cat Wheel Loaders have been designed to meet the needs of customers working around the world in a large range of applications. When working in applications handling combustible materials such as agriculture, biomass, log & lumber, bulk material handing (coal / grain / fertilizer), and industrial & waste materials, a spark arrestor designed to prevent exhaust sparks is a valued feature.

Many of these customers have to fit additional hardware to meet their needs. With this customer requirement in mind, Caterpillar has completed spark arrestor performance testing on the clean emission module supplied with the EPA Tier 4 Final / EU Stage IV / Japan 2014 (Tier 4 Final) compliant Cat C7.1 Engine per EN 1834-1.2000 (section 6.4.2 Visual Test). The emission system on the Cat C7.1 ACERT did not transmit any sparks during the testing and fulfills the performance requirements of a spark arrestor.

Caterpillar is pleased to offer the following Wheel Loader models noted in Table 1 powered by the Cat C7.1 ACERT providing spark arrestor performance as standard with no additional hardware required. See CSA letter noting conditions of spark arrestor testing and conclusions.

The emission system on the Cat C7.1 Engine also meets the requirements of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service (Standard 5100-1d February 2013 section 4.5.2. Diesel Particulate Filters.) The diesel particulate filter (DPF) in the Cat C7.1 ACERT emission system is a "Wall Flow" type (consisting of parallel, adjacent channels which are plugged on alternating ends) and 100 percent of the exhaust gases flow though the DPF. Cat Wheel Loaders also provide the operator with a visual and audible warning when the DPF filter requires manual cleaning or replacement.
