C15, C18 and C32 Marine Engine Service Meter Runs Constantly{1426, 4462} Caterpillar

Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

The 197-8832 Service Meter Gp runs constantly when power is applied to the ECM.

Solution

The 300-5538 Wire that contains a 1 kOhm, 2 Watt resistor can be installed in the Start/Stop control group if the engine is equipped with a 203-4624 Auto Start/Stop Control . The 300-5538 Wire and the connections for the Start/Stop control harness need to be sealed with heat shrink tubing. The 114-2505 Film can be applied to the service meter in order to provide the correction factor for the correct number of engine hours.
