Displaying and Adjusting Selected Parameters

"DSPL SEL" key - This key is used to access 14 display screens. In some cases, various general parameters of the control system can be adjusted. You can view the parameters when any of the status screens are displayed. Pressing of the "DSPL SEL" key displays the status of the parameters sequentially. The display screens and the configurable parameters screens are explained below.

Screens with adjustable parameters will be identified by a double ended arrow near the adjustable value when the appropriate setup mode for that screen has been enabled.

There are two groups for setup mode: setup mode group 1 and setup mode group 2. The keys labelled "LEAN" and "FAST LEAN" are used in order to increase the adjustable parameter. The keys labelled "RICH" and "FAST RICH" are used to decrease the adjustable parameter. Adjust the values that are related to NOX in the following manner:

  • Use the "LEAN" buttons in order to decrease the value of NOX in parts per million (ppm).

  • Use the "RICH" buttons in order to increase the value of NOX in parts per million (ppm).

The "MAP SENSOR" screen displays the measured inlet manifold air pressure. The "MAP SENSOR" screen also displays the percent of the inlet manifold pressure sensor's duty cycle. No adjustable parameters are displayed on this screen.

Illustration 2g01389026

The "NOx Sens" screen displays the status and data for the NOX sensor. There are four states that may be shown on the display: OFF, heating, active and inact. This screen also provides the measured level of NOX in ppm when the sensor is active.

Illustration 3g01389031

The "NOx des" screen displays the desired NOX target value. The "NOx des" screen also displays the measured NOX level for the feedback input from the NOX sensor. The desired target represents the sum of the base desired NOX and the offset value from the map for the speed and for load.

This is the display screen and the configuration screen for the calibration of the speed sensor. The first "MagPkUpCal" screen displays the frequency in hertz. The calibration factor and the measured rpm are also displayed. In "setup mode 2", the user can calibrate the frequency in order to correct slight deviations in the measurement of the rpm. The value that is used to calibrate the frequency adjustment is set at the factory. The range is 7000 to 12000.

The second "MagPkUp" display and the configuration screen shows the calibration value for the number of teeth on the flywheel ring gear. The frequency in hertz and the corresponding engine speed are also displayed. The user can adjust the number of gear teeth in order to match a nonstandard flywheel. This adjustment is made in setup mode 1. The default and the expected number of teeth is 138. The adjustable range is 50 to 500.

The above screens describe the following values:

  • The range of the stepper motor for the fuel valve is (0 to 1700 steps)

  • The default position for the fuel valve (350)

  • The present position of the fuel valve (951)

The keypad can be used to adjust the default position of the stepper motor for applications that use a fuel system that is not standard. The adjustable range for the default position is 50 to 1650.

The "C/L CONTROL RICH GAIN" display screen describes the gain value in the closed loop mode. The "C/L CONTROL RICH GAIN" display screen determines the response rate for a rich fuel flow. In setup mode 2, the keypad can be used to adjust the rate of change when the control attempts to change the engine to a lean condition from a rich condition. The default value for the rich gain is 100. The adjustable range for the gain is 50 to 150 (slower response to faster response).

The "C/L CONTROL LEAN GAIN" display screen describes the gain value in the closed loop mode. The "C/L CONTROL LEAN GAIN" display screen determines the response rate for a lean air/fuel mixture. In setup mode 2, the keypad can be used to adjust the rate of change when the control attempts to change the engine to a richer condition from a lean condition. The default value for the rich gain is 100. The adjustable range for the gain is 50 to 150 (slower response to faster response).

The "Thresh" display screen indicates the threshold value for rpm. If the engine speed is equal to or greater than the threshold value, the engine may be considered loaded. Otherwise, the engine is considered unloaded or the engine is in the idle condition when the closed loop is disabled. In setup mode 2, the keypad can be used to adjust the threshold value for rpm for an application that is not standard. The default value is 1000 RPM. The adjustable range is 0 to 3000.

A loaded engine is dependent on the following two variables:

  • Engine speed

  • Intake manifold pressure

To enter the loaded condition, the engine speed must be above the threshold that is described in Illustration 9 and the intake manifold pressure must be above the threshold that is described in Illustration 10. Once in the loaded condition, the hysteresis is provided on the intake manifold pressure but not on the engine speed.

To enter the low idle condition, the engine speed must be below the threshold that is described in Illustration 9 or the intake manifold pressure must be below the threshold that is described in Illustration 11.

The "Thresh" display screen indicates the threshold value for engine intake manifold pressure. If the engine intake manifold pressure is equal to or greater than the threshold value, the engine may be considered loaded. In setup mode 2, the keypad can be used to adjust the threshold value for engine intake manifold pressure for an application that is not standard. The default value is 75.0 kPa. The adjustable range is 0 to 260.0.

Illustration 11g01389211
Adjustable in setup mode 2

The "Thresh" display screen indicates the threshold value for engine intake manifold pressure. If the engine intake manifold pressure falls below the indicated threshold value, the engine exits the condition of being loaded. In setup mode 2, the keypad can be used to adjust the threshold value for engine intake manifold pressure for an application that is not standard. The default value is 65.0 kPa. The adjustable range is 0 to 260.0.

The "Thresh" display screen for engine rpm and the "Thresh" display screen for engine intake manifold pressure are used together to establish the following conditions:

  • Enable closed loop mode. The engine is loaded.

  • Disable closed loop mode. The engine is at idle.

The "ModBus" screen describes the settings for the communication protocol of the RS232 port which is accessible inside the control unit. The port functions as a "ModBus RTU Slave". The port supports the following baud rates: 300, 600, 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, 19200, 38400 and 57600.

In setup mode 2, the keypad can be used to adjust the following:

  • Adjust the MODBUS ID. The default value equals 1.

  • The ID is adjusted with the "RICH" and the "LEAN" keys.

  • Adjust the port settings. The default port setting is 9600n81.

  • The port settings are adjusted with the "FAST RICH" and the "FAST LEAN" keys.

The data protocol for the RS232 port is the following:

  • 8 bits with no parity

  • 1 stop bit

The "FIRMWARE" display screen is used to identify the firmware version for the control and the firmware version for the logic boards. The "FIRMWARE" display screen is also used in order to identify the release date of the firmware version. No adjustable parameters are displayed on this screen.
