Magnetic Filter Screen and Housing - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure

Start by:

a. Connect the Steering Frame Lock.


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.



NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.


Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, all hoses, and all tubes to prevent fluid loss and to prevent contaminants from entering the system.

  1. Drain the output transfer gear case into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Transmission oil - Change".

  2. Disconnect tube assembly (1).

  3. Remove bolts (2) and magnetic filter screen and housing assembly (3) from the output transfer gear case.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install magnetic filter screen and housing assembly (3) in the reverse order of removal.
