Electric Drive Pump (Powered Stairway) Oil - Change - If Equipped

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Place the powered stairway in the fully lowered position before performing the following procedure.

    (1) Powered stairway electric drive pump oil filler cap

    (2) Oil level sight gauge

    (3) Oil reservoir drain plug

  1. Oil reservoir drain plug (3) is located at the bottom of the powered stairway platform. Clean any dirt and debris from the area around the oil reservoir drain plug.

  1. Position a suitable container beneath the oil reservoir drain plug.

  1. Remove oil reservoir drain plug (3) and allow the oil to drain into the suitable container.

    Note: The oil reservoir drain does not have an ecology valve. Oil will flow from the oil reservoir when the drain plug is removed.

  1. Clean the oil reservoir drain plug and install the drain plug into the bottom of the oil reservoir.

  1. Remove oil filler cap (1) and fill the reservoir with oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities" for information concerning the correct type of oil to use. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)" for information concerning the correct amount of oil to add.

  1. Check the oil level and add additional oil, if necessary. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Electric Drive Pump (Powered Stairway) Oil Level - Check" for the proper procedure for checking the oil level.

  1. Install the oil filler cap.

  1. Verify that the area around the powered stairway is clear of people and obstacles. Activate the control switch in order to cycle the movement of the stairway between the raised position and the lowered position.

  1. Return the powered stairway to the fully lowered position.

  1. Recheck the powered stairway oil level and add additional oil, if necessary.
