Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


  1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".

  2. Loosen hose clamps (6). Remove hose (7).

  3. Remove bolts (1). Remove tube assembly (2) and gasket (3).

  4. Remove bolts (8). Remove tube assembly (9) and gasket (10).

  5. Remove bolts (11) and bonnet (12).

  6. If necessary, remove bolts (4), housing (5), the water temperature regulator, and the gasket.

  7. Loosen hose clamps (13). Remove hose (14). Remove bolts (16) and tube assembly (15). Remove the retainer sleeve and the O-ring seal from tube assembly (15).

  8. Loosen clamp assembly (17). Remove bolts (20). Remove elbow (18) and tube assembly (19). Remove the retainer sleeve and the O-ring seals from tube assembly (19). Remove elbow (18) from tube assembly (19).

    Note: Check the alignment of the adapters for the aftercooler prior to installation of the tube assemblies.

  1. Install the O-ring seals on tube assembly (19). Apply Tooling (A) to the O-ring seals. Install elbow (18) on tube assembly (19). Install the retainer sleeve on tube assembly (19). Install tube assembly (19) and bolts (20). Tighten clamp assembly (17).

  2. Install the O-ring seal on tube assembly (15). Apply Tooling (A) to the O-ring seal. Install the retainer sleeve on tube assembly (15). Install tube assembly (15) and bolts (16). Install hose (14). Tighten hose clamps (13).

  3. If necessary, install the gasket, the water temperature regulator, housing (5), and bolts (4).

  4. Apply Tooling (A) to the O-ring seal on bonnet (12). Install bonnet (12) and bolts (11).

  5. Position gasket (10) and tube assembly (9). Install bolts (8).

  6. Position gasket (3) and tube assembly (2). Install bolts (1).

  7. Install hose (7) and tighten hose clamps (6).

  8. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".
