NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.

Steam can cause personal injury.

Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure.

Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.


  1. Drain the coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

  2. Open door (1).

  3. Remove bolts (2) and the washers. Move oil filter (3) and the bracket out of the way.

  4. Remove elbow (4).

  5. Disconnect clip (5) from water temperature regulator housing (8).

  6. Disconnect harness assembly (7).

  7. Remove bolts (6) and the washers. Remove water temperature regulator housing (8).

  8. Disconnect hoses (11).

  9. Disconnect oil cooler bonnet (12) from the water pump.

  10. Loosen clamp (13).

  11. Remove bolts (9) and the washers. Remove water pump cover (10).

  12. Remove bracket (14).

  13. Remove bolts (15). Remove cover (16).

  14. Remove bolts (18) and the washers. Remove water pump (17).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install water pump (17) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Apply Tooling (A) to all O-ring seals and bores prior to installation.
