Warnings

------ WARNING! ------

Do not attempt to assemble this machine until you read and you understand the assembly instructions.

Improper assembly procedures could result in injury or death.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.

Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine.

----------------------

NOTICE

Do not let any dirt or foreign material get into the hydraulic system during assembly or maintenance operations. Keep the oil in the hydraulic system at the correct level to prevent pump cavitation. Clean all surfaces where parts are to be installed.

NOTICE

When a hoist is used to lift any component, stand clear of the area. Always make sure that the hoist has the correct capacity. Approximate weights of the components are shown in Tables 1 through 4.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Note: No oil or lubricant is recommended on new fasteners. When fasteners are reused after being used in the field, the fasteners should be cleaned and lightly oiled before assembly. Instructions are given when lubrication is required.

Procedure for Shimming

    Illustration 1g00292740

  1. Remove all of the shims from C-frame (1) .

  1. Remove excess rust and paint from the contact surfaces of these components: the C-frame, the cap and the shims.

  1. Install C-frame (1) and cap (2) on trunnion (3) without shims. Use the largest torque from the following list in order to tighten the bolts.

    • Five percent of the specified torque

    • 50 N·m (37 lb ft)

Maintain equal distance on both space (A) and space (B) of cap (2). Observe spaces (A) and (B) in order to determine the required number of shims.

  1. Loosen the bolts that are on cap (2). As needed, insert shims into spaces (A) and (B). When possible, use an equal number of shims for spaces (A) and (B) .

Note: The number of shims at space (A) must be within one of the number of shims at space (B). For example, if space (A) has eight shims, space (B) must have seven, eight, or nine shims.

  1. Add one additional shim to space (A). Add one additional shim to space (B) .

  1. Tighten the bolts that are on cap (2) to the proper torque.

  1. The C-frame should move freely on the trunnion. The specified minimum tolerance is 0.25 mm (0.010 inch).

Note: Removing one or more shims may be necessary after time. Wear can be caused by normal vibrations of the surface or variations in the thickness of the paint.

Install Procedure

    Illustration 15g03649005

  1. Raise and block the bulldozer blade (1) in an upright position.

    Illustration 16g03649141

  1. Insert pivot pin (7) through C-frame (8). Install retainer (5) with two bolts (6) to pivot pin (7). Tighten bolts (6) to a torque of 530 ± 70 N·m (390 ± 50 lb ft).

    Illustration 17g03649144

  1. Align C-frame (8) with the bulldozer blade. Use pin (2) and retainer (3) with bolt (4) in order to install pivot pin (7) to the bulldozer blade. Tighten bolt (4) to a torque of 270 ± 40 N·m (200 ± 30 lb ft)

    Illustration 18g03649174

  1. Measure the height from the ground to the center of the trunnion on the roller frame.

  1. Raise the rear center of C-frame (8) and block up the C-frame to the height that was measured in Step 9.

  1. Move the machine into position. The machine should be inside C-frame (8). Stop the engine.

    Illustration 19g03649182

  1. Use these components to install C-frame (8) to the trunnion: bearing cap (11), shims (9), two washers (13), two nuts (10) and two bolts (12). For instructions on shimming, refer to ""Procedure for Shimming" ". Tighten the bolts to a torque of 900 ± 100 N·m (665 ± 75 lb ft).

  1. Repeat Step 7 for the other side of the machine.

    ------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result if the lift cylinder is not secured when the lift cylinder is being attached to the blade or detached from the blade. The lift cylinders can rotate freely rearward when the cylinder rod is retracted.

Secure the lift cylinder until the cylinder rod is extended in order to prevent the lift cylinder from rotating rearward.

    ----------------------

    Illustration 20g03649185

  1. Remove the shipping brackets from the lift cylinders. Store the shipping bracket for future use.

  1. Use the cap, the shims, the four bolts, and the four nuts to connect lift cylinder (B) to C-frame (8). Use 8E-9212 Shims as required to obtain a minimal clearance. Tighten the nuts to a torque of 460 ± 60 N·m (340 ± 40 lb ft).

Note: Those parts that are not numbered are components of the lift cylinder.

  1. Repeat Steps 14 and 15 for the other side of the machine.

    Illustration 21g03658059

  1. An improperly adjusted brace causes binding between the surface of pivot pin (7) and the surface of the bracket on the bulldozer blade. Check clearance (H) between pivot pin (7) and C-frame (8). This clearance check should be done with the blade on the ground and the braces should be pinned in the middle position. If clearance (H) is not in the 25 to 30 mm (1.0 to 1.2 inch) range, then adjust the push arms on both sides of the machine. See Illustration 21.
