Introduction
This Special Instruction provides the proper procedure for replacing the Particulate Trap Exhaust Filter or the CCRT filter on engines that are installed in buses. The buses were built by North American Bus Industries (NABI). Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you read this information and you understand this information.
Procedure to Properly Replace the Particulate Trap Exhaust Filter or the CCRT Filter
Disassembly of the Particulate Trap Exhaust Filter or the CCRT Filter
- Completely remove the current assembly for the Particulate Trap Exhaust Filter or the CCRT filter from the bus. Also remove the mounting brackets. Retain the rubber or the spring isolators in order to be used later. Retain the inlet V-band clamp from the Particulate Trap Exhaust Filter or the CCRT filter in order to be used later.
Note: The Catalyzed Continuously Regenerating Technology (CCRT) filter is a trademark for Johnson - Matthey. The CCRT is the same thing as Caterpillar's Particulate Trap Exhaust Filter.
- Modify the Air Conditionor (AC) duct per the Orginal Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) instruction.
- Disconnect and remove the 222-6055 Exhaust Monitor Gp .
Required Parts
Note: The piece parts of the Required Parts must be ordered. The parts of the 307-5512 Filter Gp and the 286-5247 Exhaust Monitor Gp are sold separately.

Required Modifications for the Particulate Trap Exhaust Filter or the CCRT Filter
The lower and upper mounting pads must be modified in order to have enough clearance for the Particulate Trap Exhaust Filter or the CCRT Filter. Follow the instructions below in order to make the proper modifications.
- The slots (1) on the mounting pads in Illustration 1 must be extended (A) 12 mm (0.5 inch) in order to obtain the proper adjustment for the mounting bolts.

- The corners must be ground off the mounting pads. Approximately 12 mm (0.5 inch) must be ground off the mounting pads. Illustration 1 and callout (2) illustrates the proper way to grind off the corners on the mounting pads.
Note: The slots on the upper mounting pads and the slot on the other lower mounting pad must also be extended.
- Grind off approximately 1 cm (0.40 inch) of inlet pipe (3) protruding above the flange. Removing 1 cm (0.40 inch) will prevent interference with the standard inlet flange on the Particulate Trap Exhaust Filter or the CCRT Filter.
Note: The corners on the upper mounting pads and the corner on the other lower mounting pad must also be ground off.

- Install the inlet section (6) of the Particulate Trap Exhaust Filter or the CCRT Filter.
- Install the filter section and upper sections (4) of the Particulate Trap Exhaust Filter or the CCRT Filter.
- Install the new 286-5247 Exhaust Monitor Gp . Refer to Special Instruction, REHS3672, "Diesel Particulate Filter Monitoring System" for proper instructions on installing the new monitor.
Note: The Caterpillar Dealer must provide the wiring harness to connect the warning light on the 286-5247 Exhaust Monitor Gp
