The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

There are reports of transmission pump shaft and gear failures on certain 988H Wheel Loaders, 834H Wheel Dozers and, 836H Landfill Compactors. When a pump fails, the machine cannot move in Forward or Reverse. The root cause has not yet been identified.

Solution

Caterpillar is aware of this problem, but an interim repair has not been identified. Replace with the same part. In the event of a failure, submit a DSN Service Request. Have the request forwarded to the Hydraulic Systems Tier 2 for Large Wheel Loaders (Attention: Lionel Cush). A Send-It-Back request will be submitted for the failed pump.
