New Air-To-Air Aftercooler Arrangements Used On Truck Engines{1063}

Usage:

3306B Truck Engines ( 63Z2650-Up)

Reference: Service Magazine, September 16, 1985, Page 13, "New Air-To-Air Aftercooler Arrangement Used On Truck Engines". This article describes the air-to-air aftercooling system, components, maintenance, tooling, installation audit procedures and dynamometer testing for 3406B Truck Engines. The information in the article is also applicable to 3306B Truck Engines.

New air-to-air aftercooler arrangements are available in the 3306B Truck Engine family. The air-to-air aftercooler provides significantly lower average engine inlet air temperatures. Some benefits of the cooler inlet air are increased horsepower, higher peak torque, improved fuel economy, greater engine reliability and reduced emissions. The chart lists ratings for 3306B Truck Engines with air-to-air aftercooling (ATAAC).

If a current jacket water aftercooled (JWAC) engine is converted to an air-to-air aftercooled (ATAAC) arrangement, the turbocharger, fuel injection pump and governor group, air piping group, lubrication lines groups and aftercooler must be changed. The air-to-air aftercooler core and air piping are supplied by the OEM.

As soon as a conversion is scheduled, contact a product analyst in Service Engineering to obtain a new Engine Exhaust Emission Control Information Label. (U.S. and Canadian dealers should call telephone number 309-578-6795. Subsidiaries should contact their service groups.) The product analyst will need:

* engine serial number
* old and new arrangement numbers
* type of conversion

After the conversion is completed, remove the old label and discard it. Install the new label obtained from Service Engineering. Use a stamp to mark the Engine Identification Plate with the proper new information (i.e. arrangement number, rack setting, high idle, fuel setting, horsepower and full load rpm). If no room is available on the old plate, obtain a new plate from your Division Service Manager and stamp it accordingly. The Engine Identification Plate is an important reference for future service work; it assures replacement parts and setting changes are of the the correct type for the engine's certified configuration.
