Truck Engine Performance Checklist Available For North American Dealers {0337,0372}

Usage:

A Truck Engine Performance Checklist is available from Caterpillar. This checklist is intended primarily for North American dealers, but if needed it can be used anywhere in the world.

Dealers are asked to use this checklist as part of their effort in handling any complaints of truck engine performance. It should be completed when the truck first arrives in a dealer's shop. This can often prevent unnecessary expenses and get the truck back on the road sooner. This is because many engine performance complaints are really a vehicle performance problem.

Use of the complaint checklist will help to collect and interpret vehicle and engine information needed to determine the actual cause of poor performance. Use the checklist with the driver or one most familiar with the exact nature of the complaint, i.e. low power, low rpm, poor response on load change, high fuel consumption, etc. The checklist is arranged so the interviewer should first collect pertinent vehicle (power unit) specifications, then trailer information, and then application and operational data before obtaining engine specifications. See illustration. Often the exact data has not been obtained or investigated prior to making governor adjustments or installing new parts which failed to correct the problem.

Persons trained in interpreting the information and knowledgeable of how the answers can effect the stated complaint will find the checklist helpful in handling complaints and obtaining customer satisfaction.

The checklists are available in a pad of 50 copies by ordering SEHS8647.
