Cylinder Head - Remove

Usage:

C7 C7S

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the turbocharger. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Turbocharger - Remove".

  2. Remove the fan drive mounting group. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan Drive Mounting Group - Remove and Install".

  3. Remove the rocker shaft and pushrods. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Rocker Shaft and Pushrod - Remove".

  4. Remove the unit injectors. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Unit Injector - Remove".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove bolts (1). Remove clips (2).

  2. Remove bolt (4). Loosen bolt (5). Rotate elbow (3) out of the way. Remove the gasket from elbow (3).

  3. Remove bolts (6). Remove bracket (7).

  4. Remove tube assembly (8).

  5. Remove bolts (9). Loosen hose clamp (12). Disconnect hose (13). Remove water temperature regulator housing (10) and the gasket. Remove the O-ring seal from tube assembly (11).

  6. Disconnect harness assembly (14). Remove tube assembly (15).

  7. Disconnect harness assembly (16).

  8. Remove bolt (17) and remove clip (18).

  9. Remove bolts (19). Remove bracket (20).

  10. Disconnect harness assembly (21). Remove nut (22) and the washer. Position bracket (23) and the dipstick tube out of the way. Cut and remove cable straps (24).

  11. Disconnect harness assembly (25). Remove tube assembly (26).

  12. Remove bolts (27) and bolts (28).

  13. Attach a suitable lifting device onto cylinder head (29). The weight of cylinder head (29) is approximately 118 kg (261 lb). Remove cylinder head (29) and the gasket from the cylinder block.
