988H (S/N: BXY1-UP)

Description of Change: A new torque converter group is used for the listed models of wheel loaders. The new torque converter group provides a longer service life for certain 988G and 988H machines that use the lockup converters (LUC). Refer to Table 1 for the serial number prefixes of the affected torque converters.

Adaptable To: The 322-5504 Torque Converter Gp replaces the 231-2307 Torque Converter Gp .

The 231-2307 Torque Converter Gp replaced the 126-5482 Torque Converter Gp.

Rework Procedure

Note: Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, RENR6206, "Torque Converter-Remove and Install" for information on the removal, disassembly, assembly, and installation of the torque converter.

Note: Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, RENR8812, "Torque Converter-Remove and Install" for information on the assembly instructions for the torque converter that pertains to the new parts that are covered in this publication.

1. Remove the torque converter from the machine.

2. Refer to Illustration 1 and Illustration 2. Disassemble the torque converter. Clean the torque converter. Torque converter components that are listed in Illustration 1 and Illustration 2 will not be reused.

3. Refer to Illustration 3 and Illustration 4. Use the new components that are listed in Illustration 3 and Illustration 4 in order to reassemble the torque converter .

   Note: Torque converters with serial numbers TCR1-865 should already have the 133-6589 Stator Adapter. Verify the part number of the stator adapter by removing the 1T-0795 Retaining Ring and the 1T-0787 Plate from the impeller side of the stator. The part number should be marked on the face of the stator adapter underneath the plate. If the adapter is a 133-6589 Stator Adapter, reinstall the 1T-0795 Retaining Ring and the 1T-0787 Plate and continue the repair procedure. If the adapter is not the 133-6589 Stator Adapter, continue with the disassembly and replacement of the stator adapter.

4. Reinstall the torque converter into the machine.

The improvements to the torque converter are adaptable to (S/N: BXY1-2498), (S/N: 2TW1-UP), and (S/N: BNH1-UP).

The improvements to the torque converter are effective in production with (S/N: BXY2499-UP).
