New stops for the recoil spring on the track adjuster are now available. The new stops for the track adjuster will improve the fatigue life of the undercarriage. This will improve the life of the weld joint on the track adjuster cylinder. The parts that are listed below are a direct replacement for the previous parts. Adding new stops on both sides of the machine is recommended. Refer to the following tables for the required parts for the correct undercarriage.

Rework Procedure

1. Inspect the track adjuster for cracks. If the track adjuster is cracked, refer to the following steps. If the track adjuster is not cracked, refer to steps 6 and 7.

2. Remove the track adjuster that is cracked from the undercarriage.

3. Disassemble the track adjuster and remove the recoil spring.

4. Assemble the recoil spring onto a new track adjuster. Replace the track adjuster with the same part number.

5. Install the new track adjuster onto the tractor.

6. Install new stops (2) and (3) with bolts (1) for the D5G, or bolts (4) for the D5C and the 939C. Reuse original 7X-0558 Washers and 9H-4105 Dowel .

7. Modify the guards in order to provide clearance for larger stops for the track adjuster. Enlarge cutouts to the dimensions that are shown in the illustration above. Both sides of the guards should be modified.
