Start By:

  1. Remove the hydraulic tank. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic Tank - Remove".
  2. Remove the hydrostatic pumps. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Piston Pump (Hydrostatic) - Remove".
  3. Remove the implement pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Piston Pump (Implement) - Remove".
  4. Remove the main control valve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Main Control Valve - Remove".
  5. Remove the batteries. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Battery - Remove and Install".

Note: Put identification marks on all hoses, on all hose assemblies, on all wires, and on all tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss, and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

------ WARNING! ------

Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.

----------------------

  1. Turn the fuel supply valve to the OFF position.

  1. Drain the fuel tank. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel Tank and Water Sediment - Drain".
