Power Train Oil Filter - Replace

Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Operate the engine in order to warm the oil. Park the machine on level ground. Lower all implements to the ground. Apply slight downward pressure.

Engage the parking brake switch. Stop the engine.

  1. Open the left engine compartment and remove the power train oil filter.

  2. Install the new power train oil filter by hand. Instructions for the installation of the filter are printed on the side of each Caterpillar spin-on filter.

  3. Close the left engine compartment.

  4. Open the access cover to the fill pipe for the power train oil in the left front enclosure. Remove oil fill cap (1).

  5. Fill the power train oil system with oil. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)".

  6. Always measure the oil level with power train oil dipstick (2).

  7. Maintain the oil level within the OPERATION ZONE marks on dipstick (2). The engine should be running at low idle. The power train should be at operating temperature. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Power Train Oil Level - Check".

  8. Clean oil filler cap (1). Install the oil filler cap.

  9. Close the access cover in the front left enclosure.
