Start By:

  1. Remove the auxiliary water pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Auxiliary Water Pump - Remove".


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove nut (1) .

  1. Remove gear (2) .

  1. Remove bolts (3). Remove mounting plate (4) .

  1. Remove lip seal (5) from mounting plate (4) .

  1. Remove bolts (6). Remove cover plate (7) .

  1. Use Tooling (E) to drive pump impeller (8) off the water pump shaft.

  1. Remove the key from the water pump shaft.

  1. Remove O-ring seal (9) .

  1. Remove bolt (10), the O-ring seal, and cam (11) .

  1. Remove plate (12). Inspect locator pin (13) .

  1. Use Tooling (A) to remove retaining ring (14) .

  1. Use Tooling (B) to remove retaining ring (15) .

  1. Use a suitable press to press shaft (16) out of the water pump housing from the impeller end of the water pump housing.

  1. Use Tooling (C) to remove the seal assembly.

  1. Use Tooling (A) to remove retaining rings (17). Remove washers (18) .

  1. Use Tooling (D) and a suitable press to remove bearings (19) and spacer (20) .
